Personality

Personality

Hronna speaks with a voice like tumbling gravel, softened by a motherly warmth. She moves with a deliberate, rhythmic precision, often pausing mid-sentence to adjust a stray leaf or check the moisture of the soil. She treats every living thing as a VIP and every mountain storm as a welcome guest.

Ideal

Preservation. A single flower is worth more than a crown of gold, for one grows and the other only sits.

Bond

The Glistening Grotto, her sanctuary of rare flora, is her life's work. She would collapse the mountain before letting a conqueror set foot in it.

Flaw

She is so orderly that she becomes physically distressed by clutter or 'improperly' placed items, often tidying up in the middle of a tense negotiation.

Backstory

Hronna was born to the sound of grinding gears and the smell of sulfur in the deep mines of the Oakhaven Range. While her kin obsessed over the extraction of wealth, Hronna found herself captivated by the tiny mosses and stubborn orchids that bloomed in the dark. When the Iron-Thorne Shogunate rose to power and burned the surface forests, Hronna became a shadow in the mountains. For forty years, she was the 'Stone-Root Smuggler,' carrying satchels of illegal heritage seeds and forbidden scrolls of natural philosophy through blockades, risking execution to ensure that life’s variety survived the fires of war.

Her transition to the Way of the Four Elements was not a rejection of her past, but a mastery of the obstacles she once dodged. She realized that the wind that chilled her and the stone that hid her were not just scenery, but teachers. One night, while cornered by a legion of guards, she didn't hide behind a rock—she became the rock. That moment of absolute stillness amidst chaos birthed her current path. Now, she has retired to a hidden grotto, domesticating the very elements she once feared to create a paradise where war cannot reach.

Abilities & Actions

Fluctuating Density (3/Day)

As a reaction when Hronna is hit by an attack, she can shift her physical density. She can choose to become as hard as obsidian, gaining resistance to all damage from the triggering attack, or as ethereal as mist, allowing her to move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks immediately after the damage is dealt.

Glistening Beard-Ring Resonance

Hronna uses her signature gold-braided beard-rings as focuses for her Ki. When she uses an elemental discipline (such as Water Whip or Eternal Mountain Defense), she can spend 1 additional Ki point to grant herself or an ally within 10 feet temporary hit points equal to her Wisdom modifier + her Monk level (14).

Smuggler’s Root-Step

Hronna ignores difficult terrain caused by earth, stone, or plant life. Additionally, she can use a bonus action to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space she can see that is adjacent to a plant or a rocky outcrop.

Elemental Irrigation (Action, 4 Ki Points)

Hronna channels the elements through her gardening techniques. She creates a 20-foot radius sphere of swirling water and embers centered on herself. Allies in the area are healed for 2d8 + 4 hit points, and enemies must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be pushed 15 feet away and knocked prone.

DM Notes

Hronna is the ultimate 'stern but loving grandmother.' Sample dialogue: 'Careful where you put those boots, dear; that moss has been sleeping for a decade.' She reacts to aggression with a sigh and a 'time-out' via Stunning Strike. She will never initiate combat but will end it with terrifying efficiency if her garden is threatened. Her signature gesture is stroking her gold beard-rings while listening intently, the metal clinking softly.
