Personality

Personality

He speaks with a booming, rhythmic bass that sounds like falling shale, yet his hands move with the delicacy of a butterfly. He carries a tattered scroll and a tiny porcelain tea set as if they were holy relics.

Ideal

Hospitality. 'A warm hearth is the only fortress that never falls.'

Bond

I will find the Sun-Cradled Valley and invite the world to dinner there.

Flaw

I am so distracted by a beautiful sunset or a rare vintage that I often forget I'm in the middle of a dangerous swamp.

Backstory

Born in the permafrost of the Ironpeak grottoes, Thok’s early life was a monochromatic struggle of gray stone and white snow. His people measured worth in stone carried and foes broken, but Thok’s soul remained dormant until the day a wayward Halfling merchant offered him a dried apricot in exchange for a mountain pass. The explosion of sweetness—a flavor he hadn't known the universe could contain—shattered his worldview. He realized then that his mountain wasn't the world, but merely a wall standing between him and a trillion tastes he had yet to experience.

He abandoned the tribal wars to become a 'Sensory Cartographer,' mapping not just roads, but the way the light hits certain valleys at dawn and where the wild jasmine grows thickest. During a meditation atop the Needle of Oros, he received a vision of the 'Sun-Cradled Valley,' a place of eternal golden hour where the air tastes like honey and peace. He now wanders the lowlands as a glowing beacon of hospitality, convinced that every stranger is just a future friend who hasn't tried his tea yet, and every dark cave is simply a room waiting for someone to bring the light.

Abilities & Actions

Radiant Sun Bolt (Action)

Thok hurls a bolt of searing light from his palm. Ranged Spell Attack: +6 to hit, range 30 ft., one target. Hit: 1d6 + 3 radiant damage. If he takes the Attack action on his turn, he can spend 1 ki point to make this special attack twice as a bonus action.

The Sun-Steeper’s Brew (1/Short Rest)

Thok uses his signature porcelain tea cup to brew a concoction infused with his ki. Up to 6 creatures who spend 10 minutes drinking with him gain 5 temporary hit points and have advantage on their next saving throw against being Frightened.

Dispel the Gloom (Reaction)

When a creature Thok can see within 30 feet makes an attack roll against him or an ally, Thok can flare his orange runic tattoos. The attacker must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or have disadvantage on the attack roll as the sudden radiance 'dispels their inner darkness.'

Stone’s Endurance (1/Short Rest)

When Thok takes damage, he can use his reaction to roll a d12 and add his Constitution modifier (2), reducing the damage taken by the total.

DM Notes

Thok reacts to hostility with genuine confusion and an offer of a snack. He speaks of flavors with religious intensity ('This cheese... it has the courage of a summer meadow!'). In combat, he laughs heartily, treating the fight like a spirited dance. He will never use lethal force unless his friends are in mortal peril, preferring to knock enemies out so they can 'wake up to a better day.'
