Personality

Personality

Luthien speaks in a soft, melodic cadence, often pausing to listen to 'vibrations' others cannot hear. She moves with a terrifyingly calm deliberation, even in the midst of a battlefield, and has a habit of hum-stitching the frayed edges of people's cloaks while offering them profound philosophical advice.

Ideal

Harmony. Every soul is a song that deserves to reach its natural resolution without being cut short by violence.

Bond

The Copper Lantern of Lulled Spirits, which contains a spark of the Feywild's eternal sunset; if it goes out, her anchor to this world may shatter.

Flaw

Her logic is so rigid that she sometimes struggles to understand that some people—and monsters—genuinely enjoy the discord they create.

Backstory

Luthien was once a creature of the shifting tides, a whirlwind of Eladrin seasons who changed her heart as often as the wind changed direction. That ended the night she stood upon the Spires of Mithrendain and felt the 'Great Silence'—a psychic void creeping from the Material Plane that didn't just kill, but erased the very resonance of existence. Horrified by the prospect of a world without song or sorrow, she anchored her soul to the steady, rhythmic gravity of Autumn. She chose the season of the harvest and the ending of pain, transforming her chaotic fey magic into a disciplined science of the spirit.

Now, she walks the world as a 'Soul-Stitcher,' treating every act of evil as a jagged, arrhythmic note in the cosmic symphony. She does not see villains; she sees wounded instruments playing out of tune. Her most famous feat involved parleying with the Ancient Red Dragon Ignisvax; rather than seeking its hoard, she spent three days singing to the deep, calcified grief in the wyrm's heart until the dragon wept, its fires cooling into a gentle hearth-glow. She carries 'Cadence,' a rapier that has never drawn blood, using it only to parry the discord of others until they find their rhythm again.

Abilities & Actions

Mantle of Majesty (1/Short Rest)

As a bonus action, Luthien casts Command as a 1st-level spell without expending a spell slot. For 1 minute, she can cast Command as a bonus action on each of her turns. Any creature charmed by her automatically fails its saving throw.

The Lantern’s Amber Eye

Luthien's signature copper lantern emits a 30-foot aura of calm. Any creature within this light has disadvantage on saving throws against being charmed and cannot be frightened. Additionally, Luthien can use a reaction to impose disadvantage on an attack roll made against a creature within the light, redirecting the 'discord' of the strike.

Soul-Stitcher’s Cadence

When Luthien uses a spell of 1st level or higher to restore hit points, she can use a bonus action to strike 'Cadence' against her lantern. The target gains temporary hit points equal to Luthien's Bard level (15) and is cured of one condition: blinded, deafened, paralyzed, or stunned, as their internal rhythm is restored.

Unbreakable Majesty

When a creature attempts to attack Luthien for the first time on a turn, it must make a DC 18 Charisma saving throw. On a failure, it cannot attack her and must choose a new target or lose the attack. On a success, it has disadvantage on saving throws against her spells until the end of her next turn.

DM Notes

Luthien never raises her voice. If she is angry, she becomes more polite and her speech becomes more rhythmically precise. She often tilts her head as if hearing music from a distance. If a player attacks her, she shouldn't strike back; she should use her magic to 'halt' them, looking at them with the pitying gaze of a doctor dealing with a feverish patient. Signature gesture: Tapping her tuning fork against the hilt of her rapier.
