Personality

Personality

Boras speaks with a soft, melodic cadence that suggests he is about to offer a blessing, even when he is threatening to break a merchant's ribs. He cleans his armor with obsessive care and never raises his voice, maintaining a terrifyingly calm demeanor in the heat of slaughter.

Ideal

Pragmatism. The universe is a ledger of debts and credits; I am simply the one who ensures the balance is met.

Bond

My daughter, Lira. Every drop of sweat and every cracked shield is a copper piece toward her seat in the highest circles of magery.

Flaw

I have no loyalty to anything but the highest bidder; I would burn a city if the payment ensured Lira's safety for a lifetime.

Backstory

Boras Quen was born into the silent, wind-swept monasteries of Adar, destined for a life of ascetic meditation and the endless psychic war against the Dreaming Dark. For decades, he followed the path of the Quori spirit within him, seeking enlightenment through stillness. That path ended the moment he held his newborn daughter, Lira. Looking into her eyes, Boras didn't see a future of spiritual struggle; he saw a child who deserved the finest tutors in Sharn, the safest villas in Aundair, and a life where her dinner was never a question of divine providence.

He walked away from the temples that evening, taking nothing but his mental discipline and a steel mace. He realized that the same focus required to still a mind could be used to perfectly time a skull-crushing blow. Boras rebranded himself as a 'Diplomatic Liquidator.' He doesn't kill for malice; he kills because the contract is signed, the gold is verified, and Lira’s tuition at the Arcanix Academy is due on the first of the month. He has become a terrifying anomaly—a warrior with the internal silence of a saint and the ruthless, transactional heart of a shark.

Abilities & Actions

The Auditor’s Precision (Passive)

Boras’s weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20. When he scores a critical hit, he adds an extra 1d8 psychic damage as his Quori spirit briefly lashes out at the target's mind.

Negotiation by Force (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest)

As a bonus action, Boras can exude an aura of overwhelming mental pressure. For 1 minute, he has advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks and can add his Wisdom modifier (+2) to his AC as he telepathically anticipates incoming strikes.

Father’s Lullaby (1/Day)

Boras activates the psychic music box at his belt. He and up to three allies within 30 feet who can hear the melody gain 2d6 + 3 temporary hit points and have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened for 10 minutes.

Remarkable Athlete

Boras can add half his proficiency bonus (+2) to any Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution check he makes that doesn't already use his proficiency bonus. In addition, when he makes a running long jump, the distance he can cover increases by 4 feet.

DM Notes

Boras should be played as the most reasonable person in the room—until the moment the negotiation fails. He never insults his enemies; he simply treats them as obstacles in a business transaction.

Dialogue: 'My dear fellow, your resistance is impacting my quarterly projections. Please, for the sake of my daughter’s violin lessons, step aside.'

Gesture: He often checks the time on a pocket watch or adjusts the framing of the miniature painting at his belt before entering a fight.
