Personality

Personality

Kismet purrs rhythmically when he's focusing on a difficult stitch or a juicy secret. He has a habit of adjusting people's collars or smoothing their sleeves mid-conversation, his touch always surprisingly warm and grounding.

Ideal

Symmetry. The world is a masterpiece that requires constant, careful maintenance to keep from fraying into chaos.

Bond

The Silver Stitch. This shop is not just a business; it is a sacred loom where he keeps the town's social fabric from tearing apart.

Flaw

He finds it physically painful to let a lie go unaddressed, often blurting out the truth at socially disastrous moments.

Backstory

Kismet was once a simple apprentice in the bustling garment district of Neverwinter, known more for his fidgeting than his needlework. His life changed when he discovered a 'loose thread' hanging in the air of a derelict basement—a shimmering, violet strand that didn't belong to any fabric known to man. When he pulled it, the walls of the world didn't fall, but his mind opened. He saw the Great Tapestry: a dizzying lattice of every soul's history, where every lie acts as a jagged, fraying knot that threatens to unravel the beauty of the whole.

He entered a pact with the Unblinking Weaver, an entity of the Far Realm that desires a perfectly smooth reality. Kismet doesn't seek power; he seeks symmetry. He moved to this town and opened 'The Silver Stitch,' where he mends more than just silk. To Kismet, a torn hem is often the physical manifestation of a torn heart. He uses his patrons' measurements as an excuse to measure their souls, gently tugging at the secrets they've kept hidden until the truth finally spills out, leaving the 'fabric' of the local community stronger than he found it.

Abilities & Actions

The Eyebone Thimble (Signature Item)

Kismet wears a thimble carved from the knuckle of a saint, inlaid with a glass eye that twitches. While wearing it, he can cast *Detect Thoughts* at will without expending a spell slot, but only to sense if a creature is lying or intentionally withholding information.

Eldritch Needlework (3/Day)

As an action, Kismet flings a strand of bioluminescent violet thread at a creature within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be magically restrained for 1 minute as spectral threads bind their limbs. While restrained, the creature has disadvantage on Charisma (Deception) checks.

Mend the Unspoken (Recharge 5–6)

When a creature within 30 feet tells a deliberate lie, Kismet can use his reaction to 'snag' the falsehood. The creature must make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw. On a failure, they are compelled to immediately speak the truth they were trying to hide, and they take 4d6 psychic damage as the 'knot' is pulled from their mind.

Awakened Mind

Kismet can telepathically speak to any creature he can see within 30 feet in a language it understands. He often uses this to whisper comforting truths or playful observations directly into a customer's mind.

DM Notes

Kismet speaks with a soft, melodic trill in his voice. He never looks at the face of someone he's questioning; instead, he stares intently at a loose thread on their sleeve. He reacts to anger with a sympathetic 'tsk-tsk' and an offer of chamomile tea. He will never betray a secret to another, but he will relentlessly pressure the secret-keeper to confess it themselves.
