Personality

Personality

Peat speaks with a calm, rhythmic cadence, often using gardening metaphors to explain complex tactical maneuvers. She hums low, resonant Duergar folk tunes while checking the underside of leaves for pests or spies.

Ideal

Cultivation. Everything—be it a person, a sprout, or a society—can reach its peak potential if provided with the correct environment.

Bond

The 'Expatriates,' the network of survivors she has liberated, whom she views as her true garden.

Flaw

She struggles to understand irrationality; she is so focused on the 'correct' logical path to safety that she can be dismissive of those who act on raw, messy emotion.

Backstory

Born in the soot-choked industrial depths of Grag-Hollow, Vola was raised to see the world as a series of structural stresses and load-bearing walls. Her clan, the Gemshatters, were experts in demolition and slave-oversight. Vola, however, possessed a mind that saw beyond the stone. Her 'awakening' occurred when she discovered a patch of bioluminescent moss thriving in a discarded ore cart. She realized that with the right drainage and a sliver of stolen light, even the most oppressed thing could flourish. She didn't rebel with a hammer; she rebelled with a ledger, slowly manipulating the colony's logistics until she had 'misplaced' forty indentured gnomes and herself into a supposedly 'collapsed' sector that led to the surface.

Now, she inhabits the Emerald Cleft, a hidden canyon where she has turned her architectural genius toward the growth of life. She runs the 'Green Lattice,' a sophisticated underground railroad for those fleeing the Underdark. Peat views freedom as a mathematical necessity; to her, a soul without liberty is simply a plant without CO2—it is an inefficiency she refuses to tolerate. She treats every refugee like a rare seedling, calculating the exact 'pH' of safety and social support they need to outgrow their trauma.

Abilities & Actions

The Dragonfly’s Lens

Peat’s signature clockwork dragonfly acts as her eyes. She can use a bonus action to see through its glass wings until the start of her next turn. While doing so, she has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks and can use her Master of Tactics feature on any creature the dragonfly can see within 60 feet.

Mathematical Kindness (3/Day)

When Peat uses the Help action to aid an ally's attack, she calculates the perfect opening. If the attack hits, the ally adds 1d6 + 5 (her Intelligence modifier) to the damage roll and gains temporary hit points equal to the extra damage dealt as they feel bolstered by her precise guidance.

Master of Tactics

Peat can use the Help action as a bonus action. Additionally, when she uses the Help action to aid an ally in attacking a creature, the target of that help can be up to 30 feet away from her rather than 5 feet of her, provided the target can see or hear her.

Strategic Enclosure

Peat knows how to use the environment to her advantage. If she and at least one ally are within 5 feet of a natural feature (like a tree, stone pillar, or dense foliage), she and her allies gain a +2 bonus to AC against ranged attacks.

DM Notes

Peat is warm but unsentimental. She won't hug a crying PC; she will hand them a perfectly balanced nutrient tea and a map to their next objective. Dialogue: 'You’re wilting, dear. Your posture suggests a 14% decrease in tactical efficacy. Sit. Drink. We shall recalibrate your environment.' She constantly fidgets with a pair of shears or adjusts her clockwork dragonfly’s wings.
