Solon was once a revered guardian of the Sunken Grove, a Centaur whose hooves knew every root and whose ears caught every whisper of the wind through ancient leaves. His connection to the land was absolute, his wisdom sought by nearby settlements for matters of natural harmony and ancient lore. But then came the Blight – not a plague of nature, but a calculated, insidious corruption orchestrated by envious rivals and a forgotten cult. Solon watched, helpless, as the grove withered, its sacred trees twisted into skeletal husks, and his kin fell to a slow, agonizing demise that mirrored the land's own dying breath. In his desperation, with nothing left but the ashes of his past and a heart choked by grief, Solon called out not to the fading spirits of nature, but to the inferno below. He sought power, not for wisdom or defense, but for a singular, burning vengeance. A Fiend answered, its whispers promising the strength to unravel his enemies, but at a price that devoured his very essence. The pact was sealed in a burst of hellfire that consumed the last remnants of the Sunken Grove's vitality, replacing it with a blighted mockery of life, infused with the infernal power Solon now wields. He is now bound, a monstrous reflection of his former self, a living testament to a promise of retribution that may well damn him forever.

Personality
Personality
Solon is a creature of quiet intensity, his movements deliberate, his gaze heavy with unspoken grief and suspicion. He speaks in low, raspy tones, often pausing as if listening to voices only he can hear. He avoids eye contact, especially with anyone whose eyes gleam with too much light, and will instinctively flinch or turn away from any reflective surface, even a polished shield or a still pool of water. He channels his inner turmoil into the meticulous maintenance of his blighted grove, ensuring its twisted flora serves his infernal will.
Ideal
Retribution. My damnation is a necessary sacrifice; once my enemies are ashes, perhaps I can find a fleeting moment of peace, or at least justify the monstrous deeds I have committed.
Bond
The memory of the Sunken Grove and the faces of my lost kin. The infernal pact is merely a tool, a dark promise binding me to the vengeance that will honor their memory, even if it destroys me.
Flaw
I cannot bear to look upon my own reflection, for it reveals the corrupted monster I have become. The sight sends shivers of primal fear and self-loathing through my very core, threatening to unravel my resolve.
Backstory
Abilities & Actions
Scythe of Blighted Harvest (Pact Weapon)
Solon wields a scythe bound to his fiendish patron. As an action, he can make two melee attacks with it (due to Thirsting Blade). This magical weapon has a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. On a hit, it deals 1d10 + 6 slashing damage plus an additional 1d6 necrotic damage. The necrotic damage replaces the typical infernal fire, reflecting the blighted nature of his pact.
Blighted Gaze (Reaction)
When Solon is targeted by an attack or spell from a creature within 30 feet that he can see, and that creature's armor, shield, or weapon reflects light or mirrors his image, he can use his reaction to avert his gaze. The attacking creature must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is frightened of Solon until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, the creature is immune to Solon's Blighted Gaze for 24 hours. Solon can use this ability once per short or long rest.
Infernal Resilience
When Solon reduces a hostile creature to 0 hit points, he gains temporary hit points equal to his Charisma modifier + his Warlock level (5 + 8 = 13). These temporary hit points represent the insidious strength drawn from his pact, allowing him to push through even the most grievous wounds, a mockery of the vitality he once possessed.
Whispers of the Twisted Grove (1/Long Rest)
As an action, Solon can draw upon the corrupted energy of his blighted hermitage to conjure forth thorny vines from the ground in a 15-foot radius centered on himself. The area becomes difficult terrain. Any creature entering the area for the first time on a turn or starting its turn there must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 piercing damage and have its speed reduced to 0 until the start of its next turn. This effect lasts for 1 minute or until Solon dismisses it (no action required). Once used, this ability cannot be used again until Solon finishes a long rest.
DM Notes
Solon is a deeply tragic figure, not inherently evil, but twisted by loss and an all-consuming need for revenge. He speaks in a low, gravelly voice, often punctuated by a soft, mournful sigh. His signature gesture is a subtle, protective clasping of his shattered heirloom pendant. When interacting with players, he will be initially wary and dismissive, only engaging if they offer aid directly related to his vengeance, or if they demonstrate a sincere respect for nature (even his blighted version). Any attempt to exploit his phobia of reflections will enrage him, potentially turning him hostile, as it exposes his deepest vulnerability and self-hatred. If his quest for revenge is genuinely hindered, he will react with dangerous, focused fury, seeing any obstacle as another manifestation of the betrayal he suffered.
