Personality

Personality

She speaks with the rhythmic cadence of a poem and never stands truly still, her fingers tracing invisible patterns in the air. She greets every stranger as a potential witness to her next masterpiece.

Ideal

Radiance. In a world of encroaching shadows, it is a moral duty to be the brightest, most beautiful thing in the room.

Bond

The Cinder-Silk Ribbon, a length of sun-spun cloth gifted by her mentor that acts as both a weapon and a tether to her past.

Flaw

She suffers from 'The Stage-Light Fever'—she will often choose a flashy, dangerous maneuver over a safe one if there is an audience to impress.

Backstory

Vespera was not born to a family, but to the biting winds of the Aethelgard Pass. Abandoned as an infant, her pale, shifting skin would have frozen to the stone if not for the intervention of Aurumvax the Patient, an ancient gold dragon. Rather than seeing a monster, the dragon saw a kindred spirit—a creature capable of becoming anything. He raised her within the Pillars of Morning, teaching her that her shapeshifting was not a tool for deception, but a divine canvas. Vespera spent her youth not imitating humans, but mimicking the undulation of dragon flight and the prismatic shimmer of wyrm-scales.

The defining moment of her life came when Aurumvax felt his end approaching. He gifted her the Static Mask, a cursed porcelain relic intended to ground her fluid nature and teach her the value of a singular, enduring identity. When he breathed his last, Vespera did not weep in the shadows. Instead, she donned the mask and leapt from the highest peak, discovering that her grief could be transformed into art. She became a 'Cloud-Painter,' a martial artist who uses her ki to weave tapestries of elemental energy across the sky, ensuring that the legacy of the gold dragon is never forgotten by those who look upward.

Abilities & Actions

Wings of the Gilded Peak (3/Long Rest)

When Vespera uses her Step of the Wind, she can unfurl spectral, emerald-green draconic wings. She gains a flying speed equal to her walking speed (45 ft.) until the end of her turn.

Cinder-Silk Spiral (1 Ki Point)

As a bonus action, Vespera whips her signature Cinder-Silk Ribbon in a shimmering arc. For the next minute, her reach for unarmed strikes increases to 10 feet, and these attacks deal an extra 1d4 fire damage as the silk ignites with draconic ki.

Breath of the Cloud-Painter (3/Day)

Vespera exhales a 20-foot cone of shimmering frost or a 30-foot line of golden fire. Each creature in that area must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 13 (3d8) damage of the chosen type on a failed save, or half as much on a success.

Curse of the Static Mask

Vespera has advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened, as the mask anchors her psyche. However, she has disadvantage on Charisma (Deception) checks that rely on facial expressions, as the mask's serene joy never wavers.

DM Notes

Vespera's voice is airy and melodic, like a flute. When she talks, she often performs minor prestidigitation to create tiny clouds of gold dust around her. She reacts to danger not with fear, but with an enthusiastic 'Watch this!' Deal-breaker: She will never willingly descend into a lightless dungeon or a cramped sewer, as she believes her art requires the canvas of the open sky.
