Personality

Personality

She speaks in clipped, rhythmic sentences, often using military jargon to describe emotional states. She maintains a perfectly rigid posture, even when her physical form is warping.

Ideal

Structure. The universe is a broken machine; I am the only one capable of rewiring it.

Bond

The Infallible Ledger—a massive, iron-bound book where she meticulously records every magical surge as a data point.

Flaw

Total Denial. She will ignore her own body turning into smoke or a nearby tree turning into gold to finish a sentence about logistics.

Backstory

Xanthia was the crown jewel of the Iron Shadow Legions, a general who calculated troop movements with the cold precision of a falling guillotine. During the Siege of Aethelgard, a rebel spell-cannon suffered a catastrophic backfire just as she reached the breach. The explosion didn't shred her flesh; instead, it vacuumed the air from her lungs and replaced her soul with a humming, violet knot of pure, unadulterated entropy. She woke in the craters of the aftermath, her shadow flickering with colors that didn't exist in nature, while her mind remained trapped in the rigid military protocols of her youth.

Now, she wanders the borderlands as a mercenary tactician, selling high-level intelligence to tyrants and warlords. She treats the chaotic anomalies of her body as a 'rebellious battalion' that she must whip into shape. When her skin turns to translucent porcelain or her voice echoes with the sound of breaking glass, she simply adjusts her collar and continues her briefing. She is obsessed with a grand 'Unified Theory of Entropy'—convinced that if she can just catalog enough variables, she can turn the chaos into a weapon to forge a silent, perfectly ordered empire across the continent.

Abilities & Actions

Tactical Surge (Recharge 5-6)

Whenever Xanthia casts a spell of 1st level or higher, she can choose to trigger a Wild Magic Surge. Unlike a normal sorcerer, she attempts to direct it. She rolls twice on the Wild Magic Surge table and chooses the effect that is most tactically advantageous to her current position.

Mandate of the Ledger

As a bonus action, Xanthia consults her Infallible Ledger. She gains a +4 bonus to her next attack roll or spell save DC, as she calculates the chaotic variables of the immediate future. If she uses this ability, her hair begins to smoke with violet cinders for 1 minute.

Martial Denial

When Xanthia is subjected to a Wild Magic effect that would hinder her (such as being turned into a sheep or teleported), she can use her reaction to take 3d10 psychic damage and ignore the effect through sheer force of will, maintaining her physical composure and position.

Tides of Chaos (1/Long Rest)

Xanthia gains advantage on one attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. After she uses this version, the next time she casts a spell, she automatically triggers a Wild Magic Surge.

DM Notes

Xanthia should never acknowledge the 'weirdness' happening to her. If her boots turn to glass, she simply walks with a slightly more careful, clicking gait. Sample dialogue: 'The 4th platoon will flank from the ridge. Ignore the fact that my lungs are currently exhaling butterflies; it is a minor logistical anomaly.' She is a deal-breaker on incompetence; she will abandon a client mid-battle if they fail to follow her precise timing.
