Personality

Personality

Oona speaks with a voice that sounds like pebbles shifting in a slow stream. She has a habit of hum-singing while she works and will physically place herself between a draft and a shivering companion without saying a word.

Ideal

Safety. The world is a cold, heavy place; we must be the hearth for one another.

Bond

I will never leave a soul behind in the dark, regardless of how many legs or teeth they have.

Flaw

She is stubbornly immobile; once she decides to stand her ground, neither logic nor a dragon can move her.

Backstory

Born in the crushing pressure of the Deep-Crust mining colonies, Oona was never bothered by the weight of the world above. While her kin saw the darkness as a tomb, she saw it as a velvet blanket. She grew up watching miners lose their minds to the 'Hollow-Eye'—a madness born of the absolute absence of light and the constant fear of the unknown. Oona realized early that it wasn't the dark that killed, but the isolation within it. She began to carry small bioluminescent mosses and smooth stones to the workers, not to light their way to work, but to give them something soft to look at while they rested.

Her life changed forever during the collapse of the Seventh Vein. As the ceiling groaned and support beams snapped like dry twigs, Oona didn't run for the surface. She stepped into the path of the falling rock and began to sing—a low, resonant hum that vibrated through her stone-like bones. Her Earth Genasi heritage fused with a sudden, overwhelming surge of divine grace from the stars she had never seen. For six agonizing hours, she became a living pillar, her violet-hued aura physically bracing the cavern roof until every last worker was evacuated. Since that day, she has wandered the underworlds, carrying her 'Core-Pulse Geode' to ensure no traveler ever has to face the deep dark alone or afraid.

Abilities & Actions

Twilight Sanctuary (2/Short Rest)

As an action, Oona creates a 30-foot radius of dim light centered on herself that lasts for 1 minute. When a creature ends its turn in the sphere, she can grant them 1d6 + 6 temporary hit points or end one condition causing the creature to be charmed or frightened.

The Singing Pillar (1/Long Rest)

Referencing her feat at the Seventh Vein, Oona can use an action to root herself to the earth. For 1 minute, she cannot be moved by any means, her AC increases by 2, and allies within 10 feet of her have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. This effect ends early if she moves or is knocked unconscious.

Core-Pulse Geode (Signature Item)

Oona uses this massive, glowing violet geode as her holy symbol. While holding it, her 'Eyes of Night' feature extends to 6 allies within 30 feet, granting them Darkvision out to 300 feet for 1 hour.

Steps of Night (4/Long Rest)

As a bonus action, Oona draws on the weightless power of the twilight to gain a flying speed equal to her walking speed for 1 minute.

DM Notes

Oona is the ultimate 'mom' of the Underdark. If the players meet her, she won't ask for their names first—she'll ask if they've eaten. She reacts to monsters with pity rather than steel. Sample dialogue: 'Careful where you step, little one. The stone is tired today. Come, sit by the Geode; the violet light mends the spirit better than any bandage.' She will never strike first in combat, always opting to use her Sanctuary and Dodge actions until the party is safe.
