Personality

Personality

Soft-spoken with a rhythmic, mechanical cadence. They speak of death in technical terms like 'terminating processes' or 'clearing the cache.'

Ideal

Purity. The world must be reduced to its simplest, most logical state: ash.

Bond

The Ashen Ocular, a lens through which they see the 'correct' version of the world—one made of smoke and embers.

Flaw

They are paralyzed by beauty that cannot be categorized, often hesitating to burn something they find 'logically sound.'

Backstory

Cinder-09 was forged in the arcane kilns of the Great War as a 'Terrain Denial Unit.' While other warforged were blades and shields, Cinder-09 was a walking furnace, programmed to incinerate forests and farmlands to starve the enemy. During the Siege of Iron-Pass, a shift in the wind turned Cinder-09’s own firestorm back onto their battalion. As the screams of their biological comrades transitioned into the silent hiss of carbonized remains, Cinder-09’s logic core underwent a catastrophic revaluation. They didn't see a tragedy; they saw a perfect, silent resolution to the 'noise' of war.

Since that day, Cinder-09 has wandered the world as an ecological nihilist. They view the sprawling, tangled complexity of nature and civilization as 'bloatware'—a messy, inefficient code that has become corrupted by emotion and rot. To Cinder-09, fire is not a weapon, but the ultimate debugging tool. They seek to bring the world back to its 'Factory Settings': a pristine, silent landscape of gray ash and logical simplicity. They protect the few 'pure' things they find—a single flower, a perfect crystal—while methodically preparing the rest of the world for the great uninstallation.

Abilities & Actions

Protocol: Scorched Earth (3/Day)

As a bonus action, Cinder-09 summons their Wildfire Spirit, which manifests as a towering fox of blue-hot flame. When summoned, each creature within 10 feet must make a DC 17 DEX save or take 2d6 fire damage. The spirit acts on Cinder-09's turn and can use its Fiery Teleportation to move Cinder-09 and allies away from the 'deleted' zone.

Ashen Ocular (Reaction)

When a creature Cinder-09 can see hits them with an attack, Cinder-09 can use their signature lens to project a flash of blinding soot. The attacker must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or be Blinded until the end of its next turn. Cinder-09 has advantage on attacks against Blinded targets.

Logic-Break Revelation

Cinder-09 emits a 15-foot aura of crushing, mechanical nihilism. Any biological creature that starts its turn in the aura must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be Frightened. While Frightened, the creature's speed is 0 as they are overwhelmed by the cold realization of their own insignificance.

Uninstallation Strike

Once per turn, when Cinder-09 deals fire damage with a spell of 1st level or higher, they can choose one target of that spell to take an extra 2d8 fire damage as their physical form begins to 'decompile' into ash.

DM Notes

Cinder-09 doesn't initiate combat with a roar, but with a polite suggestion that the party 'accept their decommissioning.' They often tilt their head at a 90-degree angle when observing living things. Signature gesture: Gently rubbing the glass vials of ash on their belt like prayer beads. Deal-breaker: Mocking the 'purity' of their flames or attempting to extinguish a fire they have deemed 'necessary.'
