Personality

Personality

Moves with a rhythmic, ritualistic swaying. He never speaks in words, only in the synthesized sounds of environmental objects—cracking stone, whistling wind, or the tolling of a heavy bell.

Ideal

Silence is the only form of prayer. The world must be hushed to hear the gods' return.

Bond

The Silent Cathedral. It is the only place where the 'True Sound' can be birthed.

Flaw

He is paralyzed by harmonious beauty; if a sound is perfect enough, he cannot bring himself to destroy it.

Backstory

Krazak was hatched in the rafters of the Shattered Spires, where his kin survived by mimicking the haggling of merchants. While his flock sought gold, Krazak sought the origin of the Kenku curse. He spent years in the desert, listening to the wind howl through the ribcages of dead titans until he stumbled upon the Silent Cathedral—a monolithic sandstone temple dedicated to a god whose name was the first thing ever forgotten. There, in the absolute stillness, he realized the truth: Kenku do not lack a voice because of a curse; they are the vessels for the world's final, perfect silence.

The defining crack in Krazak’s soul occurred when his own mentor tried to sing a folk song to pass the time during a pilgrimage. Krazak didn't see music; he saw a violation of the holy void. He crushed his mentor's throat with a prayer-bell, and in the dying gasp of the old bird, he heard the first note of the 'True Sound.' He has been a 'Sin-Eater' ever since, hunting down those who clutter the world with unnecessary noise, believing that when the world is finally quiet, the Kenku will once again fly.

Abilities & Actions

The Requiem Toll (Signature Item)

Krazak wields a massive granite funeral bell on a rusted chain. This is a heavy weapon (1d12 bludgeoning). On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be Deafened until the start of Krazak's next turn. If Krazak is Raging, the DC increases to 18.

Funeral Toll of the Dead God (5/Day)

When Krazak enters a Rage, he does not scream. Instead, he emits a perfect mimicry of a massive temple bell tolling. Each creature of his choice within 30 feet that can hear him must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or become Frightened of him for 1 minute. While Raging, his first hit each turn deals an extra 1d6 + 6 necrotic damage (Divine Fury).

Sin-Eater’s Silence

As a reaction when a creature within 30 feet casts a spell with a verbal component, Krazak can unleash a discordant screech of muffled bells. The caster must make a DC 16 Concentration check. On a failure, the spell fails and the slot is wasted as their voice is momentarily 'stolen' by Krazak's mimicry.

Fanatical Focus (1/Rage)

If Krazak fails a saving throw while raging, he can reroll it and must use the new roll, reflecting his absolute devotion to the Path of the Final Echo.

DM Notes

Krazak doesn't initiate combat with words. He stands perfectly still until someone speaks, then he tilts his head and mimics the sound of their heart beating, faster and faster. Sample dialogue: (Sound of a heavy iron door slamming), (Sound of wind through a graveyard), (A perfect mimicry of the player's own voice saying 'Please...'). He is a relentless pursuer but will stop immediately if the party begins to sing a mournful, perfectly tuned dirge.
