Personality

Personality

Soft-spoken and hauntingly calm. They tend to stare unblinkingly at any light source—torches, spells, even the sun—until tears stream down their soot-stained cheeks. They speak of fire as if it were a mother, not a weapon.

Ideal

Renewal. The old, choking rot of the world must be cleared by flame to allow the true green to return.

Bond

The Ashen Root. It is the only evidence that a world of light ever existed, and I will see its progeny bloom under the sun.

Flaw

I am so enamored by the beauty of the burning that I sometimes forget that others lack the Duergar's resistance to its heat.

Backstory

Born in the suffocating, soot-stained depths of Gracklstugh, Bhalgor was intended to be another cog in the Duergar war machine—a stoic, joyless metal-shaper. But the 'Inheritance' changed everything. Bhalgor discovered a family secret buried beneath a layer of volcanic glass: a fossilized root from a prehistoric surface forest. Touching it granted Bhalgor a vision not of the Underdark’s oppressive heat, but of the sun’s transformative, life-giving fire. They realized that the 'deep-bellows' of their people were used only for destruction, while fire could actually be a womb for growth. This revelation 'cracked' them; they were no longer a child of stone, but a vessel for the Wildfire.

Bhalgor fled the Deep, carrying the Ashen Root and a shard of 'Undying Charcoal' that constantly singes their grey palms. They are defined by the contradiction of being a 'Bottom-Dweller' who dreams of the sky, and a Druid who cultivates flame rather than forests. To Bhalgor, the world is stagnant and needs to be 'burned back' so that something beautiful can grow from the nutrient-rich ash. They seek redemption for their race's cruelty, believing that if they can find the legendary 'Sun-Pool' in the surface world, they can bring a spark of warmth back to the cold hearts of the Duergar.

Abilities & Actions

Summon Wildfire Spirit (2/Short Rest)

As an action, Bhalgor can expend a use of Wild Shape to summon a spirit of flame. Each creature within 10 feet of the spirit when it appears must make a DC 16 DEX save or take 2d6 fire damage. The spirit manifests as a fox-like entity made of embers, has 45 HP, and acts on Bhalgor's initiative.

Touch of the Undying Charcoal

Whenever a creature within 5 feet hits Bhalgor with a melee attack, the shard of charcoal in their palm flares. The attacker takes 1d8 fire damage, and the next attack roll made against Bhalgor by that creature before the end of its next turn has disadvantage as smoke fills its vision.

Enhanced Bond (Ashen Root Focus)

While Bhalgor's wildfire spirit is summoned, any spell Bhalgor casts that deals fire damage or restores hit points gains a d8 bonus to one roll of the spell. Additionally, Bhalgor can cast spells as if they were in the spirit's space.

Blazing Resurgence

If Bhalgor is reduced to 0 hit points, they can cause the Wildfire Spirit to drop to 0 hit points. Bhalgor instead drops to 1 hit point and regains 21 (1d8 + 17) hit points as they are shrouded in a protective, cauterizing flare.

DM Notes

Bhalgor reacts to hostility with profound sadness rather than anger. Sample dialogue: 'Do not fear the heat, little one. It only hurts because you are holding onto things that are meant to turn to ash.' Signature gesture: Wiping soot from their forehead with a singed palm, leaving a faint trail of glowing embers in their hair. They will never willingly extinguish a natural fire.
